Kathy Hughes

Director of Little Wellspring

When I reflect over the last 30 years I can see that God has prepared, refined, and equipped me to be in Roseburg, Oregon right now to be part of a wonderful ministry called Little Wellspring Christian Preschool and Child Care Center.

My husband Tim and I have been married 38 years and spent over 28 years living in Reno, Nevada. seven years ago God lead us to Roseburg, Oregon. Our Reno friends often asked us if we had family in Oregon, we would always answer no, God is leading us there for Kathy to do a ministry. So with God leading the way we packed up our familiar life to embark on a new season of our journey.

God began preparing me for Little Wellspring by being the mother of four children who are now adults between the ages of 35-31. While my children were growing up I volunteered for over 15 years at my church as the Director of Preschool Ministry. I ministered to preschool families during Sunday School, a Mother’s Day Out Program, Vacation Bible School and other outreach activities. God then lead me to be an Aide for over five years for a student with special needs and to complete my education by getting a degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a minor in Developmental Disabilities. After completing my education I accepted a position with Nevada’s Parent Training and Information Center empowering, educating and encouraging parents of children with special needs for seven years. I had many opportunities to advocate for children and families locally, statewide and nationally as the Statewide Family Network Coordinator.

God has given me a burning desire for children, their families and especially a heart to minister to families with children who have special needs. Though it was not easy to leave our comfortable world we have seen God in everything we have done. One of my life verses is “Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:5

God is awesome and I am so blessed to be able to serve Him by ministering to families as the Director of Little Wellspring.

Kathie Skelly

Head Teacher Lions/Assistant Director

My name is Kathie Skelly and I am so glad to be a part of the team of Little Wellspring Christian Preschool.

My husband Tim and I have been married for 24 years and have three daughters between the ages of fourteen and twenty-one. Tim and I met in Southern California where I began my education in Early Childhood at Santa Ana College. I began teaching preschool in the late 80’s primarily with 3-5 year olds and briefly with Kindergarteners for a private school. I continued to work with children and teens until the Lord lead us to Roseburg in 1995. Tim and I served as Senior Pastors of Gateway Faith Center for 15 years until 2010 when we moved to Spokane, Washington. In August of 2011 God brought us back to Roseburg.

I have enjoyed working with families to bring encouragement, strength and comfort where needed. My favorite verse is found in Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord. “Plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

I am so grateful God has opened the door for me and you to be a part of this amazing ministry at Little Wellspring. I look forward to getting to know you and your children, trusting God has great plans for all of us to give us hope and a wonderful future.

Anita Goulart

Head Teacher Babyland/Tiny Tots

My name is Anita Goulart I have been married to my husband Leonard for 28 years on October 1st. We have two children Michael who is 24 and attends Portland State University and just got accepted into the Architect Program, and a daughter Amy who is 19 and attends the University of Oregon studying Elementary Education hoping to teach 2nd grade someday. I have worked at Little Wellspring for over a year and feel extremely blessed to be a part of this team of amazing people. When I started working for Little Wellspring I was working only in the afternoons. This year I made the decision to leave my morning job and work all day for the Little Angels 1 class and Babyland as a teacher. I feel so honored to have been given this opportunity and so blessed to spend my days taking care of these children and spreading God's love. God has been such a comfort and a blessing in my life and has helped me through many challenges.

Ashley Woodruff

Teacher Babyland

Hello, my name is Ashley Woodruff and I work as an Teacher in

Babyland. I can't begin to tell you what a joy, honor, and blessing it is to work with infants and one year olds.

I graduated from RHS in 2003 and then I moved to Portland where I worked as a caregiver for a while. I moved back to Douglas County in 2012 to be closer to family. I was working in a day care home before I was called for another caregiving job. Last January (2016) I was notified about an opening with the babies and tiny tots. February 1st I will have been a part of Little Wellspring family for a whole year.

Can't wait to see what the future has in store for me.

Mike Peterson

I am Mike Peterson; I have been married to Teacher Teri Peterson since 1979. I grew up in Sutherlin and graduated from the High School. I attended Boise Bible College for 2 1/2 years, went to UCC twice and in Vancouver WA I went to International Air Academy. I have lived in Sutherlin, Gresham, South San Francisco CA and Elk Grove CA before the Lord lead us here to Roseburg.

I have taught Sunday School classes for children and adults. With my wife at my side we taught and ran children’s church, VBS and a high school youth group. I worked with my wife at her Day Care center in Sutherlin and her Home Day Care in Elk Grove, CA. I took training classes to work in her day care. We have always had children in our lives and I am "Grandpa" to a number of children. I feel the Lord led me to Little Wellspring Preschool/Child Care Center. Ariel Owen

Lead Teacher Little Angels 1 and Little Angels 2

Hi, I’m Ariel Owen, and I just feel so blessed to have found Little Wellspring. When my husband found a job teaching math at Roseburg High School, the thought of moving to a town where I didn’t know anyone or have a job lined up was a bit scary, but I trusted in the Lord that everything would work out. I felt that it was what I sometimes call a “God Thing” when the pieces fell into place and I found myself at Little Wellspring.

I feel so blessed to finally be working at a Christian Preschool where I can not only help children grow, but also grow in their faith.

And a little about myself: I studied Early Childhood Education at Lane Community College. I love friends, family, and my cat (although sometimes I don’t know why), and I like to spend free time doing arts and crafts.

Cathy Ramsey

Teacher Little Angels 1

Hello! I came to Little Wellspring in November 2013. God richly blessed me by opening the way for me to teach with my daughter, Ariel, in the two-year-old class. Even though we got our educations at different schools, and at different times, our teaching styles are remarkably similar and mesh together so well in our class.

I grew up with a love for children. When I was five years old, I wanted to have 100 babies of my own! At least until I had my tonsils out and my room was next to the Nursery at the hospital. Then I decided that maybe four or five would do.

My background in working with children started in Junior High with babysitting. I also worked in the Nursery at church, which I continued to do until my own kids were grown. I taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. Professionally; I have worked at the Lane Community College Child Development Center, at the Pearl Buck Center, and was Director of a Preschool in Eugene. I have also been a substitute teacher for Elementary schools in Lane County.

My degree in Early Childhood Education is from Oregon State University. I have also taken Elementary Education classes at the University of Oregon. However, I am still a loyal Beaver fan! I moved to the Eugene area after graduation, where I lived until God led me here to Roseburg.

Thank you for allowing me the privilege of teaching and caring for your children! It is my prayer that they will feel loved and cared for in our class, and that God would use me to bless them as they learn and grow.

Teri Peterson

Afternoon Teacher Little Angels 1

My name is Teri Peterson. I'm married to a wonderful man that supports me in everything I want to take on. We have two great adult sons that live in the San Francisco area, Michael Jr and Norman. God really blessed my life with my family. I feel that God gives us children as His special blessings from above.

I started teaching Sunday School as a teenager and knew that I wanted to work with children the rest of my life. In the 70's I bought a day care center in Sutherlin but sold it later to be a housewife, but I always wanted to work in a Christian preschool. We moved to the San Francisco area and we were there for 22 1/2 years where I managed a 66 unit apartment complex, and I was in charge of the children’s department and ladies group at the church we attended for many of those years. The Lord then led us to Elk Grove, a suburb of Sacramento, where I opened and ran a home day care for over 5 years. After my Dad went home to be with the Lord, my sister called us and wanted us to be with her, as our Dad was living with her at the time of his death. She felt lonely, so we decided it was time to come home. This was done with a leap of faith, and we didn't know God's plan for us. Last year I had the pleasure of volunteering at East Primary School in Sutherlin and was later blessed by being hired to help the kindergarteners with reading issues. This last summer I was told about an opening at Little Wellspring Christian Preschool so I applied and here I am. It took 34 years to fulfill my dream. To God be the Glory. My motto is "A Grandma's Love".

Kate Tilford

Lead Teacher Little Angels 2

My name is Kate Tilford. I was born and raised on the central coast of California. All though it is a lovely area, it never felt like home. I fell in love with Roseburg on my first visit; the mountains, rivers and trees is what I had always been looking for. This was the home I longed for. I have been here almost ten years, and still love the area and its people.

I went to school at Alan Hancock College and received a degree in Early Childhood Development. Shortly after getting my degree I began working at a Christian Preschool in Arroyo Grande. While I worked there I taught in the two year old, three year old and four year old classes. I really enjoyed teaching each special age group but have always been partial to

My heart has always been in teaching children. It is such a blessing to be able to influence little lives. I see such value in each child that I care for. I am so thankful to get to be part of the Little Wellspring family!

Amanda Mode

Lead Teacher Lambs

Hello, I am Amanda Mode. I am so blessed that God has called me to Little Wellspring. I have always lived in Oregon and have spent about the last 15 years in Roseburg. I graduated from Roseburg High School in 2007 and from there I went straight to Umpqua Community College. I spent my first year going for a degree in business marketing, but then decided that I wanted to pursue a degree in the medical field. During my time in school I worked in the fast food world to pay my way through college and volunteered at Mercy Hospital to gain experience in the field. I ended up becoming a Nationally Certified Clinical Medical Assistant and went on to work for a primary care office and a few years later at a pediatric office.

In 2014 I had prayed a lot about moving forward in my career and found myself moving to Medford. I loved living there and loved my job, but God had other plans for me and I moved back to Roseburg only a few months later. I was very blessed though to move back. My Grandmother was finishing chemotherapy treatment for her lung cancer and my Aunt had just been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Unfortunately, my Aunt lost her battle while my Grandmother won hers, but during this time I was able to spend a lot of time with them, help both at home and take them to various doctor’s visits. During this time I was praying a lot about what God had planned for me. I knew that I no longer wanted to work in the medical field and that I wanted to be involved in a form of Christian ministry.

I have been blessed in my life to have grown up in a Christian home and to have a Mom and Dad who have loved God. My Mom works as a Director of Children’s Ministry at a local church and over the years I have been involved in teaching the children and helping with kids events, so when I found out Little Wellspring needed a teacher, I knew this is where God wanted me to be. I am blessed by these kids and I want to be involved in making a positive impact in their lives.

I have lived in Douglas County for over 20 years. I am the mother of five grown children. My education is in leadership and education with an emphasis on brain development. I love babies and children of all ages. I find great joy in teaching preschool and I especially delight in teaching children the stories of the Bible and helping them hide God’s word in their hearts through scripture memorization.

Hi there! My name is Alexis Applegarth. There is a lot I can say about myself but first and foremost I want to say how much I love God! God has done many things in my life but by far the greatest thing has been bringing me here to Roseburg, OR. I was originally born and raised in Woodland, CA. I graduated from Woodland High in 2008. In the fall of 2008, I began my college education at American River College in Sacramento, CA. At first I had decided to study Fashion Design. After lots of flip flopping on what it was I truly wanted to do for the rest of my life, God gave me the opportunity to become a full-time live-in nanny. While nannying, I was given the opportunity to watch these two little people, 4 year old Ryan and his 5 year old brother Dylan. I loved being with them and watching them grow. After two years of watching these boys I decided I wanted to become a teacher. I began my study in Early Childhood Education at Consumnes River College in the spring of 2012. After completing a couple of terms, I was given the opportunity to move out of California; away from most of my family and all I had known for my entire life to begin a new life in Roseburg, OR. I had visited this town since I was the age of seven after my grandparents had retired up here, but still only came up every summer and really didn't know many people here.

Shortly after moving here I began school at Umpqua College, continuing my transfer units. Almost every Sunday on my visits here as a child and into my adulthood I had attended Wellspring Church with my grandparents. Moving here, I decided Wellspring was the church I wanted to continue attending.

Now, how Little Wellspring fits in is in September of 2012 I was given the opportunity to hear more about the preschool through working with the Awana's Cubbies. I then immediately decided Little Wellspring was the place I wanted to start learning and growing as a teacher. I knew from the moment I heard of Little Wellspring that this was where I wanted to get some more hands on experience in working with children. I looked into volunteering at Little Wellspring but, things seemed to not work out at the time. It wasn't until June of 2013, God finally opened the door and I was given the opportunity to start out as an Aide 1 here at Little Wellspring. I truly believe God as brought me to this school for a reason and I hope to continue to learn and grow through watching the wonderful teachers here. I have high hopes that someday I can become a wonderful teacher just like them. I am very excited to get to know each and every one of you! God has a plan for everyone and I know you were brought into my life for a special reason. God bless.

Virginia Montano

Lead Teacher Lions 1

Hello, my name is Virginia Montano

I would like to start by thanking God for what He has done and doing in my life. I was born and raised in San Diego, California. I became a widow on August 27th, 2005. God has blessed me with five wonderful children and five wonderful grandchildren.

I have always worked with and loved children. I have taught children for over 12 years either in my home or with Headstart. I studied Early Childhood Development at the College of the Desert.

The past ten years I stayed home to raise my two young boys. A little over a year ago God brought me to Roseburg, Oregon. For the last year I have been volunteering at Fir Grove Elementary School where my boys were attending school.

I am so blessed and grateful to have the opportunity to teach and see your children grow with God. I look forward to working with you and your children. To God be the glory.

It is a joy to work with the children and their families here at Little Wellspring. We have a great team in Babyland/Little Angels 1. I am very blessed to be working with them.

My wife Kathy and I moved to Roseburg for her to begin a ministry. After 25 years as a Police Officer I find it a pure delight to work with preschoolers. I have taught preschoolers in Sunday school and have had the pleasure of helping to raise our two grandkids. I am a Disney fan and enjoyed many trips to Disneyland when raising our four children. We have visited Walt Disney World, FL and been on four Disney cruises. I enjoy travel, camping, hiking, and spending time with my grandkids. With the opening of Little Wellspring it has been my pleasure to help out in many areas of the Preschool, assisting the Teachers, other Aides and the Director in completing any task that will provide a safe and encouraging environment for the children to learn about God. It is a continuing blessing for me to work with the many dedicated Preschool workers at Little Wellspring.
